Antonio Téllez Solá (January 18, 1921, in Tarragona – March 27, 2005, in Perpignan) was a Catalan anarchist, guerrilla, journalist and historian.[1]

Biography

[edit]

The son of a railway worker, he was born in Tarragona and at the age of 16, as the Spanish Civil War broke out, joined the fight against fascism in the anarchist Juventudes Libertarias. In February 1939 he was forced into exile with others of the defeated Republican Army and spent 18 months in French detention camps. He escaped and joined a Spanish guerilla cell in Aveyron, later part of the French Resistance.[1]

After the liberation of France, Téllez Solá joined the 10 day, unsuccessful invasion of Francoist Spain in October 1944 with around 6000 communist-led guerillas of the Unión Nacional Española. He survived a battle at Salardu and moved to Toulouse where he set up clandestine arms stores. Between 1944 and 1946 he liased between the French and Spanish anarchist movements and in 1946 spent three months undercover in Spain. Ultimately he was unsuccessful in mobilising support for the Spanish resistance in France.[1]

He moved to Paris and from 1954 worked to write the history of the post-1944 anarcho-syndicalist guerillas fighting Franco's regime. He covered Catalonia, Aragón, Asturias and Galicia in the north, the Levante and Extremadura in the east and west, and Andalucía in the south.[1]
