Tallest Twin Towers

[edit]

In the second Table “Tallest destroyed structures by category, not surpassed by existing structures”, The category “Twin Towers” lists “One & Two World Trade Center” in New York, USA, with height 417/415 meters. However the main table (existing structures) correctly lists “Petronas Twin Towers” in Malaysia as tallest with height of 452 meters. Hence the “tallest destroyed” should not list the “One & Two World Trade Center” as these were not taller than Petronas “Petronas Twin Towers” (or the table title should not mentions “…not surpassed by existing structures” in the future cambodia phnom penh capital city of cambodia there will be thai boon roong twin tower world trade center 561.7 meters 1843 feets vojtik2009

Request for consistency between pages

[edit]
Contrary information is given on different related Wikipedia pages.

The ‘History of the world's tallest buildings’ page gives Old St Paul’s as the first structure taller than the Great Pyramid but both the ‘List of tallest buildings and structures’ and the ‘List of tallest freestanding structures’ both give Lincoln as the first structure taller than it.

Can someone who knows what they’re talking about make these pages internally consistent?Jjc2002 (talk) 12:44, 29 April 2021 (UTC)Jjc2002[reply]
@Jjc2002: Why don't you WP:BEBOLD and give it a try yourself? -- Doctorx0079 (talk) 14:34, 29 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Merdeka 118

[edit]

Lists need to be updated to include Merdeka 118. I don't know how to do this myself. 74.135.64.31 (talk) 01:10, 2 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Egypt's Iconic Tower

[edit]

There is a dispute over whether Egypt's Iconic Tower should be listed in the Tallest structure by category table. The editor who added the entry created a new category for it: "The tallest tower in Africa". However, geographical area has historically not been allowed as a category because that opens up the table to include structures in every category for every continent, country, state/province, city, etc., etc. - it would be an endless and therefore useless list. Indeed a comment in the source for the table states it quite clearly:

        ***************************************************************
        * PLEASE READ BEFORE EDITING HERE! *
        *              ================================               *
        *                                                             *
        * If you have come here to add a tall building or structure *
        * in your city or country, because it is missing from the *
        * list, please don't. The following is a list of the tallest *
        * completed structure in EACH OF THE CATEGORIES below. There *
        * can only be one structure in each category, unless the *
        * title for the tallest is a draw (e.g. Masonry building) *
        ***************************************************************

It should be noted that there are already places for lists of tallest 'things' by continent and country, eg. List of tallest buildings by country (which does note that Iconic Tower is the tallest in Africa), and the articles under the super-category Lists of tallest buildings by continent.

My position is that if the editor believes that Iconic Tower belongs in the Tallest structure by category table, they should first discuss it here, either citing a source that says Iconic Tower usurps a structure in an existing category or propose and justify the creation of a new non-geographical category. To emphasize: the onus is on them to justify the addition, not on anybody else to find a place in this article for any given structure. - Wikkiwonkk (talk) 17:15, 27 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
